Mircoplastics ingested by Guanay cormorant (Leucocarbo Bougainvilliorum) 2023 – Research Paper
This study evaluates plastic ingestion in Near Threatened guanay cormorants (Leucocarbo bougainvilliorum),
Results show:
Plastic was found in 7.08 % of cormorant pellets at 10 colonies across Peru.
Microplastic (<5 mm) was the most abundant plastic size found in the samples.
Presence of plastic in pellets was associated with the presence of river mouths close to the colonies.
Mircoplastics ingested by Andean Condor (Vultur Gryphus) 2022 – Research Paper
Andean condors from Peru are highly contaminated with plastic, which may affect their health, population dynamics, and conservation. Moreover, as condors are apex scavengers, our results highlight the fact that plastic pollution in remote areas of Peru is present at different levels of the food web and in the environment. Urgent Action should be taken to reduce environmental contamination with this hazardous pollutant.
Surfrider Foundation Europe and Good Karma Projects – Chasing pellets: An expedition against plastic pollution blog
The journey was based on the assumption that plastic pellets could be spilled hundreds of kilometres away from their origin, the members of the expedition aimed to assess the amount of pellets found in this area.
Nurdle lake pollution 2011 – Research Paper
This study represents the first detailed examination of the distribution, types, and physical and chemical degradation processes of plastic particles in a fresh water setting.
Debris in Stormwater drains, Australian case study 2023 – Research Paper
Gross pollutant traps were installed in 120 drains in Greater Melbourne, Australia, and citizen scientists trained by Tangaroa Blue Foundation weighed and classified debris at 6-week intervals between October 2019 and October 2020. Four survey cycles were conducted before lockdowns were implemented, then another four during lockdowns
Nurdles in edible fish 2015 – Research Paper
A baseline assessment of plastic pellet ingestion by two species of important edible fish caught along the eastern coast of Brazil is described in this study
Ingested microplastic in mussels 2008 – Research Paper
The mussel, Mytilus edulis, was used to investigate ingestion, translocation, and accumulation of microplastic debris.
Global plastic debris 2009 – Research Paper
This paper documents global plastics production and the accumulation of plastic waste. While plastics typically constitute approximately 10 per cent of discarded waste, they represent a much greater proportion of the debris accumulating on shorelines.
